ABOUT

WHAT IS MAMS?

Minnesota Avenue Main Street (MAMS) is a community-focused initiative funded by the DC Department of Small and Local Business Development (DSLBD) and managed by H Street Main Street. Located in the heart of Downtown Ward 7—where Minnesota Avenue NE meets Benning Road NE—the corridor is one of the largest and most historically significant commercial districts east of the Anacostia River.

This vibrant area is home to cultural and architectural landmarks such as the Art Deco Senator Theater and the newly renovated Dorothy I. Height Library, named in honor of the trailblazing civil and women’s rights leader. The neighborhood is undergoing a wave of reinvestment and renewal, with developments like the Park 7 mixed-use complex and enhancements to the Minnesota Avenue Metro station shaping a bright future for the corridor.

Managed by the experienced team behind H Street Main Street, MAMS brings a thoughtful, place-based approach to community and economic development, supporting small businesses, fostering neighborhood pride, and celebrating the unique identity of Ward 7.

Ward 7, centered where Minnesota Avenue NE meets Benning Road NE, is home to the Art Deco Senator Theater ad the recently renovated neighborhood library named after famed Civil Rights and Women’s Rights activist Dorothy I. Height. The neighborhood has experienced significant growth with new and planned developments including the mixed-use Park 7 and a revitalized Minnesota Avenue Metro station.
